RAAFVVA

HISTORY

The RAAF Vietnam Veterans Association (RAAFVVA) was formalised at the inaugural Annual General Meeting held on Anzac Day 1987. Meetings and reunions were held in the then RAAF Sergeants Mess located in Dorcas Street, South Melbourne until the Association was provided with a permanent room in the Melbourne RSL (The Duckboard Club), 91 Flinders Lane, Melbourne, 3000. With the sale of the RSL building and closure of the Duckboard in 2006, the RAAF Vietnam Veterans Association now meets at the RAAF Association Rooms at East Hawthorn.

The Association operated as a social organisation until the need for welfare support was recognised. This resulted in the RAAFVVA seeking affiliation with the Vietnam Veterans Association of Australia, and as a consequence became a sub-branch of the VVAA in June 1992 and, subsequently, has become affiliated member of the Royal Australian Air Force Association. Since then, the RAAFVVA has become involved in all aspects of Veteran Welfare support and is well placed to meet the welfare needs of RAAF veterans.

The RAAF Vietnam Veterans’ Association takes an active role in all veteran welfare projects including providing substantial support to all VVAA activities.
